We have decided to be (mostly) waste free for a month and decided to create the Green UP Challenge! The Green UP Challenge will start on March 1st, 2016. For the challenge we hope to fit all of our waste for the month of March into a small jar but if you want to join in you can choose your own Green UP goal!

I am nervous and a little scared with this new goal of our families BUT am looking forward to the challenge. More importantly I hope that once we are done the challenge we continue to use less waste in our household.

We have been preparing since November to make this challenge work for us, provide tips for you to join in AND create a rad giveaway package to be given away at the end of the challenge. Let’s just say that the giveaway is EPIC and will help YOU  Green UP YOUR  life!!!

I would love for you to follow along our family’s journey! If you don’t want to just follow along AND you want to Green UP for the month of March too then make sure to sign up to the blog to receive free resources to help you out.

Why are we doing this?

We are doing this project for 3 main reasons:
  1. Our Playground:

The outdoors is our playground.  If you have already been following our website and Instagram you have probably noticed that we LOVE the outdoors.  My husband and I want to make sure that we will continue to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors  as long as we live. We  also want to ensure that generations to come get to enjoy the outdoors including our kids and potential grand kids!

  1. A family goal:

Waste free living has always been a goal of our families but one that seems incredibly difficult to achieve. Our hope is to Green UP our life for 1 month and reduce our wasteful habits. While we are unsure whether we will be able to continue such an intense Green Up lifestyle, we hope to move forward with less waste in our lives and who knows!! Maybe run this challenge a couple times a year…

  1. Environment

We believe that the environment needs protecting. and the way we are living is not sustainable. In order to protect the environment and create change we believe that change needs to happen at an  individual/family level as well as a greater policy level. For us that change begins in our own home.

How are we going to do this?

With a little bit of pre-planning, some great resources and thoughtful practice. We have been planning this project since November!!! Do you want to follow along ? We are starting on March 1st, 2016! Sign up now so that you can start planning with your family. You will get weekly e-mails the whole month of February to help you set up goals and organize your lifestyle so that you can Green UP for the month of March. Once March has hit then we will send weekly e-mails with our top tips to Green UP, some of our favourite products or solutions to problems and encouragement because greening up is not easy!

Who is this for?

This project is for people who:

  1. People who may not want to green up completely but commit to a few green up changes
  2. Want a jump start to greening up their lifestyle and go all in
  3. Already have a green lifestyle but want to reduce their waste to a single jar!

Who is this not for?

  1. People who are going to criticize that our practices may not be the greenest way out in the world. Hey! We are just doing our best and trying to jump start environmental change in our life.

To receive  weekly inspiration  join us on our Green UP  Challenge!!!

When the challenge is over we will only send you monthly e-mails with our top Green Up tips and outdoor inspiration.

  1. What a great idea, made even more impressive to attempt with small children. My family is down to one kitchen bag of waste per week, which isn’t ideal, but good for us! Our biggest issue is diapers… with a two year old I figure close to half of our waste is pampers! I’m hoping he is trained within the year and that will further reduce our garbage. I will definitely follow your blog for more ideas. Good luck!

    1. That is a great your are down to one bag of waste per week! Every little bit helps for sure! It totally is a challenge for us since I have not cloth diapered since I was using a diaper service and it got too expensive! My friends are giving me a crash course lol. For us now its all the little things we are having to change and learn about. Its all exciting though!
