Calgary is such an amazing city. It boasts some serious adventure within an hour or to drive in the surrounding Mountains. But, there are lots of great adventures to have within Calgary as well. There are beautiful city hikes, epic mountain biking and stand up paddle boarding all within the city. Many of these activities can be done with kids of all ages depending on where you go and explore. Check out these 8 Adventure Activities for Families in Calgary.

1. Shred Calgary’s only Downhill Mountain Bike Hill
Mountain Biking is alot of fun. Downhill mountain biking is thrilling. The Calgary Olympic Park (COP) and area boasts a great set of trails for downhill mountain biking. The hill has runs for all abilities. Learn more about biking at COP here.
2. Fly through the Air at Rocky Mountain Flying Trapeze
Ever want to join a circus ? Fly through the air at Calgary’s only Trapeze location. Thrill seekers as young as 6 can learn how to Trapeze. Price is $55 for a 90 minute lesson. Learn more here.
3. Keep a Look Out for Deer while Hiking or Trail Running
Enjoy a hike or trail run in one of the beautiful city parks that make you escape the city vibes without ever having to leave. Spot deer at Nose Hill Park, explore through the forest at Fish Creek, explore the North side of the river at Bowmont Park, and on occasion you can spot fairies houses in Douglas Park.
4. Mountain Bike Beautiful Scenic Trails
Fish Creek, Nose Hill Park and Bowmont Park are also great places to bike. Bring out the bikes and enjoy a bike ride on narrow dirt trails. Start at one of the parking lots on top of the Nose Hill to avoid a big climb with kids. Check out Trail Forks website and search for trail information here.
5. Float the Elbow or the Bow River
For inexperienced paddlers enjoy a float down the Elbow river. The Elbow river is more family friendly than the Bow River which has features that can be dangerous for those that are inexperienced on the water. Make sure to where a life jacket. 6. Test Your Skills at a Mountain Bike Skills Park
Try out your skills at a Mountain Bike Skills Park. Little kids on balance bikes and older kids shredding the “knar” will enjoy the Chestermere bike park or the Fish creek bike park.
7. Climb at one of Calgary’s Climbing Gyms
I one time heard that Calgary had the most climbing gyms per capita of any other city in the world. I am not sure if that is true but Calgary has at least 6 climbing gyms. Some are Boulder specific without any ropes, while others have a mix. Our favourite gyms in Calgary are the Calgary Climbing Centre gyms and Bolder.
8. Stand Up Paddle Board at Chestermere Lake
