Best For

The Stonz Mittens are great for those cold -20C days snowboarding or skiing. They easily go over the jacket because of the wide opening. They are 100% waterproof and hard to pull off because of the  two adjustable toggles. Stonz is also a Canadian company! Buy the Youth Stonz Mitts here and the Baby Mitts here.

Things to know

They are a little more bulky then some other mitts making it more challenging for picking up items outdoors. Also note that the Stonz mittens for older children have a hole for the thumb but the mittens for babies do not have one.

Best For

The price on the MEC  Toasty mitts is hard to beat and is the cheapest pair that is featured in this post. They are slimmer fit making it easier for kids to pick up items outdoors. They easily fit over the jacket and there is no fussing with straps. They also feature a Blue Design  Fabric meaning that is has been certified with a  reduced environmental footprint. Things to know

These mittens lack features of the other mitts like the ability to tighten them with a strap. They are also a little easier to pull off and not quite as warm as some of the other mittens.  After wear and tear the MEC mittens  can become wet inside especially on those slushy winter days. They are water resistant and not 100% waterproof.

The outdoor gortex, primaloft filling and  wool lining is top notch and the design is a slimmer fit then other mittens of similar warmth. They also have a zipper to help put the thumb into the thumb hole. They fit over most jackets. The Best Friend Mittens by Kombi do not have quite as large of a opening as some of the other mittens. They should fit over the jacket but it may be a little more challenging than other mittens. These mittens are pricy because of the high quality of materials used.

  1. We just upgraded to the GoreTex Burton mitts! We haven’t used them yet, so no review. But hoping for dry hands in Oregon’s wet snow.
