I haven’t found a pair of snowboard goggles or helmets that met my criteria that were worth sharing. Until now.
I have always struggled with snowboarding and that it is only a “rich person” sport. I scraped pennies to try to be able to go over the years with my family. Our girls received their first snowboard ! I recently found affordable snowboard gear that doesn’t compromise quality and functionality for my family and to share with my readers and social media followers.
Meet the Outdoor Master brand. Outdoor Master Helmets and Goggles really fit our family’s values, and that expensive gear shouldn’t prevent anyone from enjoying outdoor activities or compromise safety. Their founder Leo Liu believed that a “price tag should be the last thing that pushes people away from the joy of the outdoors” and the who brand is built on this foundation.
I recently had the opportunity to check out their snowboard helmets and their goggles for the whole family. I was impressed that they have MIPS safety technology in a helmet for half the price of competitors. For our kids, I was surprised by the quality and fit. Other options have not met our needs fully or been way too expensive.

Kids Outdoor Master Helmet and Goggle Combo
While we have struggled with fit, and functionality of other brands, Outdoor Master has made sure to hit all the correct design elements in their helmet and goggles for kids.
Outdoor Master offers a few different kid’s helmet and goggle options. At $98.46 CAD, the Reindeer and Happy Valley Kids Snow Bundle is an affordable and safe option. You can also purchase each of these items seperately!
Here are the specs that we love:
Design
I put this first because our 9 year old was very excited about the design and I could have seen our girls excited to wear their helmets when they were very little
Our youngest daughter was so excited for her new helmet. Each one the Reindeer helmets comes with a super fun design and she chose the orange helmet with the fox on the side!
Safety and Fit
A helmet isn’t only for looks and actually meant to protect our head from injury and the Outdoor Master’s Kid Helmet does by meeting ASTM F2040 standards.
Helmet fit is always important when it comes safety. There are two sizing options for young kids, XS and Small. Both sizes can be adjusted with the knob on the back of the helmet.
Our 9 year old is using a size small with a circumference of slightly over 21 inches. The helmet is the best fit we have ever found and it comes nicely over her head compared to some other “high end” brands.
The Happy Valley Ski Goggles fit so perfectly with the helmet and were a great size for her face. She was comfortable and ready to right.
Extra “Bonus” Features
Built in Goggles Clip. Trust me me, you want a clip to keep the goggles attached to the helmet. We have lost goggles because a high end brand didn’t have them for their kid’s helmet. We ended up making a clip out of tape.
Detachable Fleece Lining, Removable Plush Earmuffs, Soft Chin Band. These are nice to have and keep the helmet warm and comfortable for a day of riding.
All-Around Ventilation. The 12 air vents allows you to stay cool and comfortable with the snowboard helmet’s moisture-wicking mesh cap. The goggle vents reduce fog and optimize airflow, protecting you from freezing winds for clear vision on the slopes.
Here are some considerations: My daughter is not able to unclip the goggle clip at the back of the helmet while wearing her helmet but I can easily do it for her. Most important for us is that the goggle clip at the back of the helmet keeps the goggles in place which means that we won’t lose them while riding.

Elk MIPS Helmet Review
The Elk MIPS helmet checks all the boxes for safety and is available at a good price. Here are the specs that we love:
Safety
The Elk MIPS helmet comes with MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System). The helmet technology designed to reduce rotational forces on the brain during angled impacts. It features a low-friction layer inside the helmet that allows the shell to rotate slightly upon impact, helping to protect against injuries caused by rotational motion.
Fit
Sizing: The Elk MIPS helmet comes in 3 sizes, small, medium and Large.
Adjustibility: All the ELK MIPS Outdoor Master helmets are adjustable with the dial at the back of the helmet. I chose the medium sized helmet with a head circumference of 22 inches and bit. I found the helmet to be a perfect size for me and the adjustability works very well. There is not movement on my head and I find it very comfortable.
Comfort: The Elk Helmet comes with removable ear pads and fleece lining. I really like the extra lining, earmuffs and soft chin band. I find the helmet very comfortable and warm. I snowboard primarily in the Canadian Rockies and the weather can be frigid cold sometimes.
Extra “Bonus” Features:
I find the fit really nice with their goggles when pairing them both together and the strap at the back keeps the goggles from slipping or folling off. There are 8 vents that help balance airflow.
Here are some considerations:
I think that the back strap that holds the goggles could have a cleaner look but it functions well.

Ultra Zeiss Snowboard Goggle Review
The Ultra Zeiss Snowboard Goggles from Outdoor Master have some high end specs that make them perform well in a variety of conditions and they fit well with Outdoor Master Helmets. They come in a variety of different VLT (Visible Light Transission) percentages and include Zeiss lenses, OVP technology, UV400 protection, anti-fog and Magklick lense technology.
Why a high quality Zeiss Lenses and OVP Lens Technology? Zeiss goggle lenses are known for their exceptional optical clarity, durability, and advanced technologies designed to enhance visibility in varying light and weather conditions. In some brands, this technology itself can run at over $200 a pair.
What is Magklick? Magklick is OutdoorMaster’s proprietary tech that keeps the lenses in place while also making it easy to interchange them.
Important things to know:
The Ultra Zeiss lens come with one highquality Zeiss Lense. The goggles to come with another 99% clear lense for night riding or when you need a lense for over from the elements but not the lighting. This lense is not a Zeiss lense.
